In South Lebanon, access to education is severely threatened by the ongoing war and Israeli occupation. According to RFI, citing data from the United Nations, 6% of Lebanese territory is occupied by the Israeli army, complicating the resumption of schooling.

More than 340 educational institutions have suffered damage, with 17 completely destroyed. This situation endangers the schooling of 100,000 children in the region.

This crisis comes at a time when education in Lebanon was already weakened by a severe economic crisis and the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had already disrupted access to schooling.
