Max Verstappen won the Malaysian Grand Prix, his first victory of the season and also a significant win for Red Bull Ford Powertrains as an engine supplier, according to Chris Medland.
With seven races remaining, Verstappen can no longer realistically aim for the championship title without an extraordinary event, but he could secure a second consecutive win at the Singapore GP.
Mercedes, meanwhile, is facing difficulties following a technical update introduced in Malaysia that failed to deliver the expected performance gains. Team principal Toto Wolff indicated that the update appeared to have slowed the team by approximately 0.3 seconds per lap.
George Russell, Mercedes driver, had to retire in Malaysia due to an engine problem and will take a penalty in Singapore, further complicating the team’s situation.
Mercedes must quickly find solutions with only one practice session before the Singapore race, while Verstappen and Red Bull continue to show upward momentum.
