According to the UN in early September, in Gaza, one in four households is now headed by a single woman, twice as many as three years ago before the war led by Israel on the Gaza Strip.

This increase is linked to the deaths, disappearances, or detentions of husbands by Israel. More than 86,000 women find themselves alone to provide for their families and raise their children.

Some displaced persons camps in Gaza have even been reserved for widows, highlighting the extent of the social consequences of the conflict.
