A nearly perfect performance was required, in front of the Parisian audience, to turn around seven weeks of global competition. French player Gwendal ‘Gwen’ Duparc delivered just that. By winning the Trackmania tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026, the French driver secured the top spot in the overall club rankings for the Chinese organization AG.AL, also known as All Gamers, along with a check for $7 million.

The scenario had everything one could hope for in a grand final: a team that no longer had complete control over its destiny, a favorite eliminated earlier than expected, and a French player forced to respond to pressure in one of the most demanding racing games in the world. By the end of the evening, Gwen had won his tournament, pocketed $130,000 for this individual victory, and added the crucial points that allowed AG.AL to surpass Team Falcons.

The Race That Shifted $7 Million

Before the final phases of Trackmania, Team Falcons was leading the Club Championship with 4,600 points. The Saudi organization, a two-time title holder, seemed poised to retain its crown thanks to Carl-Antoni ‘Carl Jr.’ Cloutier, a seven-time Trackmania world champion. His elimination in the quarter-finals opened a massive opportunity.

Gwen then had to turn this possibility into victory. According to results published by the Esports World Cup and corroborated by L’Équipe, his success brought the necessary points for AG.AL to finish with 5,300 points. Thus, the Frenchman did not just win an individual competition: he determined the economic and sporting ranking of the entire edition.

The reward reflects the scale that esports has reached. The Club Championship distributed $30 million among the 24 best organizations, with $7 million going to the winner. At this level, a race lasting just a few seconds influences budgets, recruitment, business partnerships, and the international visibility of a brand.

Why Gwen Withstood Extraordinary Pressure

Trackmania may seem immediately accessible: a car, a track, and a stopwatch. But its demands are brutal. Drivers repeat trajectories, optimize every jump, and seek gains measured in thousandths of a second. A tiny mistake can negate hours of preparation, especially in a final format where the ranking can change with each round.

Gwen, who was about to celebrate his 22nd birthday, approached this final with a double weight. He was playing for his own title in front of a French audience, but also for an international organization whose jackpot depended directly on his result. His ability to maintain precision in this context gives this victory a significance far beyond just another line in a record.

The story is also one of a French talent becoming the hero of a Chinese structure. This intersection summarizes contemporary esports: players, coaches, investors, and communities cross borders, while clubs build rosters across multiple continents and games.

All Gamers Ends Team Falcons’ Reign

AG.AL succeeds Team Falcons, winners of the first two editions of the club rankings. This change of champion is significant because it prevents the establishment of automatic dominance and enhances the interest in the multi-game format. All Gamers did not build its success on a single title: the organization had notably accumulated results in Tekken 8 and Honor of Kings before Trackmania provided the climax.

The Club Championship rewards the depth of an organization. It is not enough to have a star team in a popular game. Points must be scored across multiple disciplines, schedules coordinated, and high performance maintained for nearly two months. This logic brings esports closer to a constructor’s championship where each section contributes to the overall result.

For All Gamers, the title validates an international strategy. For Team Falcons, the final failure shows that a comfortable lead can disappear when the system still allows multiple paths to points. For other clubs, the lesson is clear: investing in less publicized games can become as decisive as aiming for trophies in League of Legends, Counter-Strike, or Valorant.

Paris at the Center of Global Esports

The 2026 edition brought together approximately 2,000 players from dozens of countries, 200 clubs, and 25 tournaments organized across 24 games in Paris. The competition, exceptionally moved from Riyadh to the French capital due to the conflict in the Middle East, ran from July 6 to August 23. Its total envelope approached $75 million.

France thus hosted for seven weeks an industry that combines spectacle, technology, broadcasting rights, sponsorship, and event tourism. The opening ceremony, featuring Aya Nakamura, DJ Snake, and Theodora, already signaled this desire to transcend the circle of video game enthusiasts. Gwen’s victory now provides the French public with a simple and powerful sporting image to remember.

The podium of Team Vitality adds another strong national point. Even though AG.AL wins the overall competition, the presence of a French organization among the best confirms the maturity of the French ecosystem. Players, clubs, organizers, and public authorities are now looking to transform this visibility into jobs, sustainable events, and regular results.

Sporting Triumph Does Not Erase Questions

The spectacular success of the event should not prevent an analysis of its funding. The Esports World Cup was created in Saudi Arabia and is part of a strategy of massive investments in video games and sports. Le Monde has notably documented Saudi expansion into esports companies, publishers, and gaming assets.

Proponents of the project highlight the prize pools, professionalization, and a global stage offered to very different disciplines. Critics question the political influence, financial dependency of the sector, and the use of sports spectacle to improve the image of a state. These two realities coexist: Gwen’s performance is authentic, as are the debates surrounding the economic model that showcased it.

The Signal the Industry Can No Longer Ignore

This final shows that esports has crossed a new threshold. A French player in Trackmania can win several million dollars for a Chinese organization during an event designed by a Saudi foundation and organized in Paris. Few cultural industries illustrate as clearly the global circulation of talent and capital.

For Gwen, the victory can change a career: it increases his notoriety, negotiation power, and value to sponsors. For Trackmania, it offers rare exposure beyond its community. For France, it extends the ambition of Paris as a capital of major events following the sporting rendezvous of recent years.

The lasting image will be that of a young French driver who had no room for error and yet accelerated at the moment when the pressure was at its peak. In a competition worth $75 million, the overall result hinged on a discipline of precision and one name: Gwen.
