In southern Lebanon, schools have reopened their doors despite the ongoing war and Israeli bombings that frighten students, reports RFI on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

According to the same source, 6% of Lebanese territory is occupied by the Israeli army. More than 340 educational institutions have suffered damage, including 17 that have been completely destroyed, making it impossible for many children to return to school.

This situation adds to already fragile access to education due to the economic crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the war that began in 2023. Despite everything, some schools in southern Lebanon have chosen to open, offering a semblance of normality to students in a very difficult context.
